BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Our Mission
Hands in the Soil (HITS) cultivates spaces for healing, connection, and transformation rooted in cultural wisdom, ecological harmony, and community care. We deepen relationships to land, food, spirit, and one another—particularly for communities historically impacted by displacement and disconnection from land. We center joy, culture, and collective well-being.
Purpose of the Board
The Board of Directors helps steward the long-term vision, integrity, and sustainability of HITS. Board members serve as trusted partners in governance, strategic direction, and resource development, helping ensure that the organization remains aligned with its mission, values, and community-rooted practices.
The HITS Board is not a symbolic role. It is an active leadership and participation role for individuals who are prepared to contribute time, insight, relationships, and strategic support. We welcome board members who understand that sustaining community-rooted work requires active participation in resourcing it. In this season of growth, HITS is especially seeking individuals who can offer thoughtful leadership, strong relationships, strategic support, and a willingness to help expand the network of care and resources surrounding the organization.
Board members work in partnership with the Executive Director to help build a resilient organization that can deepen its impact, expand its reach, and remain rooted in cultural integrity and community care.
Board Service Term
Board members serve a two-year term and may be eligible for renewal for up to two additional consecutive terms, pending Board approval. The Board meets monthly, with additional committee or strategic meetings as needed.
Nomination and Selection Process
Candidates may be nominated by current Board members, staff, community partners, or members of the broader HITS community.
Prospective board members will participate in a conversation with organizational leadership to explore alignment, capacity, experience, and shared vision. Final appointments are made through the Board’s review and approval process.
A Note on This Season of HITS
Hands in the Soil is in an important season of growth, refinement, and strategic strengthening. We are seeking board members who not only believe in the mission, but who are ready to actively support the next chapter of the organization with care, clarity, commitment, and participation. This is a meaningful opportunity for those who want to help shape a community-rooted organization at a pivotal stage of development.
